Service Description
Reading and understanding P&ID drawings – understanding the system designers’ intent and operations. In this presentation, we will explore the importance to Operations and Engineering of the Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID drawings). One of the first drawings created during a design process of a Water and Wastewater Treatment Facility they form the basis of the systems that operate, provide control as well as how we can interact with our systems. In this presentation we will cover: • Define what a P&ID is; • Describe why they are important to the operation of your facility; • Give examples of when you might use a P&ID; • Use a Master sheet as a reference for identifying P&ID symbols and labels found in line tables, instrument; symbols and designations tables, and graphic symbols tables; • Identify the symbols for vessels, compressors, heat exchangers, valves, and pumps; • Interpret an example numbering system used for labeling equipment on P&ID; • Explain why instruments and control loops are important for the safe operation of a plant; • Identify the symbols for selected instruments • Describe how instruments in control loops are related and named on a P&ID • Identify piping and give specific information about a pipeline including material in the line, size, line number and weather or not the line is insulated or traced. • Identify pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic instrumentation signal lines. • Trace the flow of a process stream into a P&ID, through the pipes and equipment, and out of a P&ID. • Identify instruments that belong to the same control loop on a P&ID; • Describe how a process variable is measured and controlled by reading a P&ID for the process. This presentation is relevant for all operators. Prerequisites: none. VENUE: Associated Engineering/ATAP 203 Wellman Crescent, Saskatoon, SK NOTE: CEU Credit is not granted by the Operator Certification Board of Saskatchewan if the same workshop has been taken more than once in two consecutive renewal periods. Workshop runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If the registrant cancels 8 business days before a workshop/course starts or earlier, they are eligible for a full refund. Within these 8 business days before the start of the course/workshop, no refunds for cancellations are available unless ATAP cancels the training. The registrant who cancels in the 8-business days prior to the start date will, however, have a credit that can be held for up to 1 year for the course or workshop (excluding the exam fees). Students who are absent, without informing ATAP of that absence prior to the course start, will receive a credit for the course only, not the exams. This course credit will be held up to 1 year, but no refund is available. Exam cancellations during a course: registrants must indicate at the time of registration (whether online or by telephone), the course exams they are writing (both, one, none). No credits or refunds will be available for exam cancellations unless the cancellation is made at least12 business days before the exams. No examinations can be added during the course. No refunds or credits available if scheduled exams are missed.
