    Oct. 18

    Workshop Topics

The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency has made changes over the years to how water and wastewater is regulated and managed in the province. These changes were required to reflect Federal and new directions within the Provincial government. Stricter effluent discharge requirements implemented a few years back are impacting expansion costs for both water and wastewater systems. As well, new technologies are shaping how we design and justify treatment options as more emphasis is placed on the receiving environment and not just the end of pipe quality.

    This Workshop will:

    • Provide a WSER refresher on Federal requirements
    • Discuss changes to the Provincial Water and Wastewater Regulations
    • Review informational needs of Downstream Use and Impact Studies (DUIS)
    • Discuss WTP backwash issues for different treatment technologies (DUIS for WTP)
    • Inform operators of the importance of early discussions with Water Security to obtain approvals

    Prerequisites

    • Basic understanding of wastewater treatment and wastewater collection system principals, practices and terminology as well as basic mathematic skills.

    Course Leaders

Gordon Will, P.Eng., Environmental & Regulatory Consultant, has over 25 years of experience in environmental engineering and planning, with emphasis on water and wastewater. He has also provided project management and site supervision for clients in both the private and public sectors. His close relationship to environmental and water issues in Saskatchewan has seen him involved in important changes to water management and regulations including development of the Province’s 25-year water strategy, establishment of proposed new provincial water legislation, and development of the province’s water conservation plan. Gordon’s experience with interpreting and implementing current water regulations, for both federal and provincial requirements, has placed him in a lead role to act as liaison between clients and government to establish required treatment outcomes. This includes the new WSER federal requirements, the new provincial Code, and the new provincial Water and Wastewater Regulations. Gordon has a B.A.Sc., Environmental Systems Engineering from the University of Regina.
